Román Filiú is an acclaimed Afro-Cuban saxophonist, composer, and educator whose music bridges tradition and innovation. With a deep foundation in Cuban musical heritage and a forward-thinking compositional voice, he has shared the stage with legendary artists including Chucho Valdés, Henry Threadgill, Pablo Milanés, Steve Coleman and Gonzalo Rubalcaba—musicians who have long inspired his creative journey.

His work has earned recognition from prestigious institutions, including the 2025 CINTAS Foundation Fellowship in Music Composition and a Chamber Music America New Jazz Work in 2016.
